Who Needs Google Music? Not Us! Take Control Of Your Music Cloud with Pogoplug

It's likely you've heard the "Buzz" regarding Google's new digital locker product, Google Music Beta. (Yes, the Buzz pun was completely intended.) However, did you know that you could already do this with Pogoplug--plus have total control over your cloud?

Well, we'd love to remind all potential and current Pogoplug owners that both Pogoplug hardware units and the Premium Desktop software can stream music to netbooks, laptops, other computers, and mobile devices. You'll be able to browse your music libraries by artist, album or song either through the My.Pogoplug web interface or through your mobile client.

Plus, many people have brought up concerns about the safety of their music that lives in Google's cloud. Google has been fairly forthcoming that music uploaded to the service will be analyzed/verified in some way, to ensure you have the right to upload that file. We don't condone piracy, but the thought of all of one's music being routinely scanned and reviewed sounds terrifyingly Big Brother to us.

So, take control of your cloud. Either pick up some Pogoplug hardware or give the Desktop software a try, and keep your music where it belongs--on your own private drives. (NOTE: The Premium software is required for streaming music remotely.)

I thought the video was supposed to be playable in any Flash enabled browser, regardless of device or whether there was an app? I tried streaming the video through the browser from my new PogoPlug Video to my new Blackberry Playbook and the browser crashed. I realize that Cloud Engines might be waiting for the NDK before developing an app and giving it to Playbook users, but would it be possible to investigate at least why it is crashing the browser? Pretty please?

Streaming music is good - but only MP3s. When can I stream FLACs via Pogoplug?

The ability to stream losslessly compressed music files (mainly FLAC) around my house was what drew me to the pogoplug as a beta tester years ago. Using the pogoplug software to stream FLAC over our LAN works well enough on a laptop or desktop computer. However, although mp3, aac and several video formats will stream to various non-laptop/desktop devices via UPNP/DLNA protocols, FLAC is still not an option there. This has been disappointing given how many AV receivers and other home audio (like networked Blu-ray players) and portable devices (such as Archos) are now offering FLAC compatibility via UPNP and DLNA.

shinwhite,

I agree completely... much of the music I have loaded on my Pogoplug is in FLAC and it is very disappointing not to be able to stream it over my Droid 2. Especially when it doesn't seem to have any problem with MP3's ripped at 320K. I suppose the issue must be the size of the files, which typically are 10 times the size of MP3's ripped at 128K, but that point was not apparent when I purchased the device.

I hope future upgrades/updates will correct this problem in the near future... I really don't want to buy a 32GB card for my phone!
