Hi Pogoplug Users,

Sharing your files and folders with Pogoplug will be easier than ever with our next update on Wednesday, May 9th. In response to your feedback, we've improved sharing functionality and created new user permissions. Starting next week, you will be able to control how you share with Pogoplug right from the share dialog.

I'd like to introduce you to three new features that enhance the sharing experience.

1. Allow Uploads: If you are sharing a folder, you will have the option to allow the people you share with to upload files. Now collaborating with friends and colleagues is easier than ever.
2. Prevent Downloads: Now you can prevent the files you share from being downloaded. The people you share with will be able to view previews but won't be able to download.
3. Hide Social Sharing Icons: Pogoplug links allow for those who view them to easily share to Facebook, Twitter and Google+. Now you can disable this option for more private sharing.

Pogoplug PC makes it easy to access folders on your computer from the Web or your mobile device, but it's not just for folders.

Using Pogoplug PC, you can also access the content of any USB drive attached to your computer, whether it's a flash drive or another external drive like a Drobo.

Let's say that my thumb drive, kinghfsplus, has pictures on it I'd like to access for a group project. I attach kinghfsplus to my computer, then use Pogoplug PC to add it to my Pogoplug account.

Today I'm going to take you on a walkthrough of Pogoplug PC, which turns your PC or Mac into a Pogoplug.

"Well that's a very catchy slogan," you may say, "but how does it work?" In a nutshell, it works by letting you access files stored on your computer the same way you access files on your Pogoplug device.

Let's get started.

Here is Pogoplug PC, sad and lonely because it is not being asked to stream any folders. Pogoplug PC lets you add any folder on your computer to your Pogoplug account. Today, I chose the contents of my desktop, my Music folder and my Documents folder.

As soon as I add them, I can log into my Pogoplug account in any Web browser and view or share the content of these folders. I can also access these files using Pogoplug's mobile apps for Android, iPhone or iPad.

In the My Cloud Tab you can view all your Pogoplug-enabled devices and see how much space you're using in each. Additionally, you can choose to associate your computer with a different Pogoplug account, or upgrade from the trial version of Pogoplug PC.

There is a little-known but awesome Pogoplug feature that lets you email attachments directly to your Pogoplug Cloud.

I appreciate it because when I send an attachment, that's usually a sign that the files in question are important-so why not store them securely online?

You can enable this feature by signing into your Pogoplug account, then going to Account Settings → Email Attachments and checking the box. Just include upload@mypogoplug.com among your recipients, and your attachments will automatically upload to Pogoplug.

If you'd rather upload your attachments elsewhere, you can change their destination to any of your Pogoplug devices or computers with Pogoplug PC installed. Additionally, you can specify a folder within your Cloud, device or Pogoplug-enabled computer.

Okay, now you're ready to attach. Make sure that you email upload@mypogoplug.com! Next thing you know, your email attachments will show up in your cloud.

Today, at the suggestion of one of our engineers, Evgeny, we're bringing you a cool tip for using Pogoplug with social media.

When you make Facebook posts that contain links to Pogoplug, you can get a preview of your share. Log into your Pogoplug account and select a file to share; then copy-paste the URL into a status update or similar post. The preview will appear beneath your update.

Pretty neat, huh?

We've already covered a number of Pogoplug Backup's great features, including Pogoplug Drive, Restore, and of course, its backup capabilities. But there's another feature that can help you get the most out of Pogoplug Backup.

Today, I'll walk you through File Management.

File Management gives you additional control over your files in Pogoplug Backup. You can enable File Management by choosing Pogoplug Backup → Preferences → Advanced. Check the box "Enable file management." Quit Backup and reopen it, and you'll see three new options under Restore: Play, Delete and Send Link.

Here's a rundown on those three new features:

Play: Under Music and Movies, selecting Play streams your files. In Photos, it creates a slideshow of your pictures, either of an entire folder or just those you select.

Delete: Selecting Delete removes the selected file(s) or folder(s) from Pogoplug.

Send Link: The Send Link option emails a public link to the file, folder or drive of your choice. When selected, Send Link opens a Web browser and automatically signs you into your Pogoplug account.

The other half of Pogoplug Backup (aside from, you know, Backup), is the Restore tab. What is Restore, and what can it do for you?

Let's find out.

Selecting Restore lets you choose between Files, Music, Photos and Movies. Within these categories, you have the option to play a slideshow of your photos, stream music, or watch movies.

You can also download files and folders to your computer under Restore. Click on a file or folder, then choose the Restore icon in the top toolbar to select a destination on your computer. (You can also Restore by right-clicking a file or folder.) This is a useful backup option for doing things like getting the contents of your Cloud saved to your computer.

In addition, back up files, folders and entire drives from your computer by dragging and dropping them into the desired location under Restore ? Files. While your upload is in progress, it will display as a progress bar in the Backup tab; when it's done, you'll be able to view your content in the location you selected.

If you're as tied to your Pogoplug as I am, you want to be able to access it as quickly as possible. For these and other conundrums, enter Pogoplug Drive: a feature of Backup software that lets you manage your Pogoplug drives straight from your desktop.

Pogoplug Drive mounts all your Pogoplug devices, your Cloud, your remotely accessed folders, and your collaboration folders like an external drive attached to your computer. To enable Pogoplug Drive, open Backup, go to Preferences -> Pogoplug Drive and turn ON. You can now move, copy, and download files to or from any of your Pogoplug drives without even opening the application. Although all our features are speedy, Pogoplug Drive is the one that provides instantaneous file transfer.

It's also a great way to manage files that aren't stored on your computer. If you have a big terabyte drive connected to a Pogoplug device, Pogoplug Drive lets you quickly view and manage the files stored there from your desktop.

Pogoplug Backup is the newest and most up-to-date version of Pogoplug's companion software, which brings backup front and center. Today, we're going to give you a brief guide to using the new software to back up your important files.

As soon as you sign into Pogoplug Backup, the program will prompt you to start backing up your files. When you click Start, Pogoplug Backup will automatically back up the documents, photos, music and video folders that it detects on your computer.

Pogoplug Backup automatically selects destinations for these folders from among your Pogoplug-enabled drives. To change where you import your files during backup, go to Pogoplug Preferences ? Advanced ? Default import destination.

You can also select additional folders for backup, as well as changing the destinations of individual folders. Selecting Show location details on the Backup main screen will display the destination Backup has chosen and give you the option to select a new one. Changing an import destination affects new backups only.

Earlier this week, we introduced Pogoplug Backup and Pogoplug PC: two pieces of Pogoplug software to help you preserve your memories, back up your stuff, and access all your files no matter where you are.

Today, we're going through some of the changes and the new features to our Pogoplug software.

Pogoplug PC delivers Pogoplug's remote access feature. With Pogoplug PC, you can stream media stored on your home computer directly to a Web browser or mobile device.

When you install Pogoplug PC, a screen will prompt you to turn remote access to ON. You can then choose the folders you would like to access remotely. All Pogoplug PC users will also receive our free 5GB of online cloud storage, so you can back up important files to the cloud.
