How to use Pogoplug Browser To Store & Back Up Your Content

**NOTE** Pogoplug Browser has been replaced by Pogoplug PC and Pogoplug Companion software. Read our review/mini-faq on the new software here.

Over the last year, the way that you back up files from your local machines or Pogoplug connected drives has changed several times. In the beginning, there was "Active Copy," which was activated and configured via the My.Pogoplug web interface. This was then integrated into the new Pogoplug Desktop software. With the advent of the Pogoplug Browser, the newest iteration of the Pogoplug software, setting up backups is even easier--but with all the changes, it can be a bit confusing. Here's some quick help on setting up backups with Pogoplug Browser.

First, open the Pogoplug Browser software (which can also be referred to as the Uploader.)

Click on the Files tab to the left, then the Sync link on the top.

Assuming you don't have any backups already set up, this screen will be blank. Click on the "+" symbol at the bottom to add a backup operation.

A dialog box will pop up asking you what files on your local machine (the machine you're running the Browser from) that you'd like to back up to your "Pogoplug Cloud." Note that in this case, "Pogoplug Cloud" refers to your *entire* Pogoplug ecosystem, not just the online storage component of it. In other words, you can back files up to USB or SATA drives connected to Pogoplug hardware, other computers with the software installed, or the online cloud storage--whatever you like!

Once you select the folder on your machine that you'd like to keep backed up with the Browser, the operation should now appear in the list, with a small "Change" link. Click that link, and you'll see a list of all the storage areas linked to your Pogoplug account--again, that includes the online storage as well as Pogoplug hardware and software connected devices/PC's.

Simply pick the destination, and you're off! You should be able to see the Pogoplug icon in your system tray (Windows) or menu bar (Mac) to show that it's enabled and actively watching for changes.

A few things to remember is that this is not a bi-directional sync; that is, when you add new files to the original folder, they'll be copied over to the destination on your Pogoplug. but deletes won't be mirrored, for example.

In addition to copying files, you can also set up automatic music, photo, and movie copy operations. They're usually automatically configured with the default directory for your setup, but can also be customized.

What about updates?
lets suppose i update a word file? is it going to update? or is going to create a second file.

Even worst.....
I use TuneUp software to fix the information of my iTunes music, it find cover art, etc...

if i download any song, iTunes import it, and put it in an specific folder, but then, with tune up, it updates that file with the correct information (that means that probably moves to the right artist or album folder, etc) so, whats going to happen if my iTunes folder is synced with pogo plug?

that means that in this case, I'm going to have the old song and the same one "cleaned"?

I guess Pogoplug guys should find a way to "mirror"

If the filename is changed then it would upload the new file.
If it is the same filename but has a different date or file size then it will replace the old file with the new one.

then is terrible.

So far the best app I've found is in the mac app store named "folder watch" to do the right sync process.

Pogoplug people is giving us the option to sync our music in order to be able to listen it in my iPhone.

but with this sync system they don't realize i never going to feel comfortable to clean, update, to put in order my music by albums, or do any change cuz then I'm gonna have a mess in my pogo plug.

that means that with this system, I'm gonna have to leave everything in the messy way in my computer to avoid duplicated files in the pogo, or full of empty folders. etc
