Very shortly or immediately? It's been over 2 hours, and I never received a verification yet.....however when I put a ticket in to support, I was notified very quickly...
How To Activate Your Pogoplug: Frequently Asked Questions
Categories: Pogoplug Hardware My.Pogoplug Website
One of the greatest things about the Pogoplug is that it's super easy to get up and running, even if you're a total computer novice. However, there are some key things to know - and some slight differences in the activation process if you already have a Pogoplug account.
You should be reading this article if:
- You want to know more about why activation is required
- You are a first time user and need help activating your Pogoplug
- You already have an account but don't know how to add another Pogoplug to it
- You bought a used Pogoplug, borrowed from a friend, etc.
- You are selling your Pogoplug and want to know what you need to do
Why do I need to activate my Pogoplug?
The Pogoplug uses the My.Pogoplug service to work its magic, and thus you need a login and password to access and manage your files online. Once you create your account, the Pogoplug software works as a gateway to your Pogoplug at home that you can log into from virtually any device with a web browser. Don't worry - activation, as well as the Pogoplug service, is quite secure. Also remember that none of your files will be transferred or stored elsewhere, they stay safe and sound on your local attached drive.
Note that after you activate your Pogoplug, you can install the Pogoplug Drive software to "mount" your Pogoplug connected drives on your local machine without the need to log into My.Pogoplug. Click here for more information on Pogoplug Drive.
Pogoplug Activation for First Time Users
If you don't have a Pogoplug account, you'll need to create one. Remember, the Pogoplug service is free; opening an account costs nothing, and there are no monthly fees.

Head to http://my.pogoplug.com and click the "Activate Pogoplug" link.

You'll be brought through a series of simple steps first, to get your Pogoplug connected:
- Connect Pogoplug to your router
- Connect Pogoplug to power
- Attach your hard drive(s)
- Verify the Internet connection

After the connection steps, you'll be prompted to enter a username and password as well as an email address for your account. Very shortly, if not immediately, you'll receive a verification email to that address - make sure you click the link contained in that email to complete the activation process.

Now, you should be all set to use Pogoplug! If you need more infomation on getting started, check out the forums, the Pogoplug FAQ, or our extensive library of articles.
Pogoplug Activation for Existing Users
If you already have a Pogoplug account, this process will go a bit faster, although you still have to complete the basic connection steps first to get the Pogoplug powered on and connected to your network. Once you complete that, head to your My.Pogoplug account.

Click on the Settings section, then General Settings. You'll see a listing of the current Pogoplug linked to your account, along with a button reading "Activate a New Pogoplug Enabled Device." Click it!

If your new Pogoplug is connected to the Internet and your network properly, the My.Pogoplug service will (quickly) discover it, and prompt you to activate. Once you confirm, the new Pogoplug will show in your list.
I bought a used Pogoplug and I can't activate it. Help!
Pogoplugs are tied to individual user accounts - that's how they work their magic. Since the Pogoplug service is designed to be private and secure, once a Pogoplug is tied to an account owner, it must be "unregistered" before it can be transferred to another account.
Chances are, the seller of your Pogoplug forgot to do this - but don't panic! The Pogoplug support team can help. You can email them, or submit an official support ticket.
I'm selling my Pogoplug. What do I need to do for my buyer?
If you ever decide to sell your Pogoplug (we won't judge, but I would really miss mine) unregistering it from your Pogoplug account is simple.

Head to the Settings => General Settings screen. Next to each Pogoplug enabled device listed in the panel, you'll see a small blue "unregister" link. Note that doing this will unshare all of your shared items, requiring you to manually re-share them if necessary. In other words, if you are having second thoughts about trading, selling, donating, or otherwise giving your Pogoplug to someone else, don't do this!
If you're certain, click the confirm button, and the Pogoplug will become unregistered - making it ready to join a new home.
Questions?
Still wondering about activation? Post any questions you have in our forums!
Agreed. I'm returning mine.
I might try to reactivate a new unit, before I completely give up.
I recommend everyone return at least one unit, and retry it.
It will hit them in the pocketbook - having to deal with all the RMA units.
If we can't get our second unit to work, I get to "charge" them twice ;)
I can't submit a ticket because I can't even see the words on the help form to prove I am human.
I just completed an activation this afternoon without any problems. I received the verification email immediately.
After successfully activating a Pogoplug Pro on my main computer, when I go to another computer and sign-in to my account, I get a blank screen - not very helpful!! How do I get access to my PogoPlug-attached disks around the house, eg on my wife's MacBook?
Further to my comment. I installed the Pogoplug drive software on my XP system. Complete Disaster!!! The program quickly decided there was no Internet Access and went into sulk mode - a black icon instead of pink! But that's not all. I then discovered that ALL my Internet access had been disabled by the program!!! Removing the Pogoplug software restored things to normal. pogo plug is turning out to be the most frustrating purchase I have ever made. Why don't you provide a proper Operations Manual???
In reply to a comment by Owen.
Yes I have repeated the whole exercise as described above, and have achieved EXACTLY the same result!! I even re-booted after my Internet access had been disabled and found it still to be true - only the removal of the Pogoplug driver via the Control Panel/ Add/Remove facility brought back internet access - nb the wireless network access was not affected, and internet access was disabled for all browsers Chrome and IE8. My suspicion is that this may be due to some misguided belief by Pogoplug that I am trying to hack into my own pogoplug account!
Just to confirm the details:
1. I can log-in to my pogoplug account on my main system (Win 7 32bit) and my pogoplug attached drive is visible and accessible.
2. I go to my second computer (Win XP) and invoke my Chrome browser. Four web tabs are active and accessible, I open a fifth tab and go to Mypogoplug web page. I enter my email address and password as usual. Pogoplug responds with a totally blank web page! ( as I said - not very helpful) I try a few more times in case I mis-typed with same result eventually Pogoplug refuses to let metry again - security ??
3. I then go to the main Pogoplug site and download and successfully install the Win XP driver and re-boot.
4 After re-boot, there is a PINK Pogoplug driver icon on the task bar. I click on it and it brings up a panel. I am also unsuccessful in login attempts, and it suggests I email for a password check (more helpful there at least!)
5. An error message panel is displayed with the following words - "Pogoplug is unable to connect to the network. Click on the button below and then open the Pogoplug software in the Control Panel in a few minutes to try again".
6.The PINK Pogoplug icon has now turned to BLACK! and all attempts to invoke give the same error message.
7. At this point I discover that ALL my web page tabs in my Chrome browser are unavailable - same for IE8!!!
8. I re-boot my XP system and try the browsers again with the same result! - wireless network access, but no internet access!
9. I go to Control Panel /Add Remove Programs and request removal of the Pogoplug entry
10 After successful removal of the Pogoplug driver, my internet access re-appears!
Have I made myself clear - thanks for taking an interest - cheers

Use Current Account?
You are already logged in as TaJon, do you want to activate this device on that account?
There is an error activating your device.
Activating the pogoplug device: this is one of the most frustrating exercise yet. The final step of the activation process returned with "There was an error activating your device." It did not tell me what or where or how I would address the problem and there was no way of telling how to go about it. Help anyone..
Hi i have just purchased a pogoplug from PC World and have tried to activate it but keeps telling me it is already activated. Please advise
